Cupcakes are for Girls - from Jeanine of Small Indulgences

I'm really excited about this morning's guest post because it's written by one of my best real-life friends! Jeanine from Small Indulgences and I have known each other for over ten years, she was one of my bridesmaids in our wedding, and she's an all-around awesome chica. She's been studying to be a pastry chef - she made the cupcakes for our wedding, and they were absolutely incredible. So I'm stoked that she agreed to guest post while I'm away. Go for it, J-9!

Cupcakes are for girls.

At least, these particular ones are.  I was hired to make cupcakes for a 30th birthday party with a “girly” theme.  Being that I’m the ultimate girly-girly (I wear pink, ruffles, lace or some combination of the three more often than most 3 year olds), this should have been an easy task. And ultimately, it was, but not without some initial concern.

You see, the cupcake-ee (customer) did not give the cupcake-or (me) any real guidelines. I was given free rein to do what I do best, just keep the cakes “girly.” This was too much – and Googling “girly cakes” only complicated things even more (not to mention some of the results would be a tad inappropriate for this particular gathering). So what’s a girly-girly to do?

The answer, my friends, is hanging in the closet. What makes me enjoy being a girl? Why, my collection of girly apparel, of course! I started thumbing through the racks (and anyone who knows me can attest to the need for multiple racks in my closet), pulling out the girliest of girly attire. I wound up with a pile of pink, purple, polka dots and ruffles.

I had found my inspiration.

The party was a smash, I was told, and my wardrobe-inspired cupcakes would have made even Carrie Bradshaw squeal with delight.  I enjoy being a girl. :)

xoxo
