hi there, what the frock readers! i'm veronika from tick tock vintage. dana was nice enough to ask me to guest post while she's on her honeymoon in alaska, and i couldn't be happier to do so. i'd love to share with you one of my favorite places on the east coast: wildwood! it's a beach town in southern new jersey that my friends and i frequent every summer. it's free, super clean, easy to get to, and has some of the best 1950's signage i've ever seen.
wildwood was a big beach destination in the 1950's and 1960's, and the signage definitely reflects that. most of the hotels have kept the original building decor and lettering, which i absolutely love. even the local wawa and acme have also kept with the whole 1950's scheme!
wildwood's boardwalk is really one-of-a-kind. the same flashy signs that you see on atlantic avenue and surf avenue line the boardwalk shops and rides, too. my favorite time to walk on the baordwalk is at night, when the colors and lights really stand out.
i also love these really cute shrimp. boardwalk food might be some of the unhealthiest grub that you can find on the planet, but people really love it. you can get fried twinkies, fried oreos, frozen custard, huge slices of pizza, funnel cake, polish water ice, and massive containers of lemonade.
there's also a small amusement park on the boardwalk. it really does feel like you've stepped back in time. carnival games are scattered throughout the rides, and you'll occasionally see people carrying around a giant pink stuffed gorilla. out of all of the kitschy rides, i think my favorite is the...
balloon race! i mean, does it get any cuter?
okay, okay, maybe it does. pink flying elephants might be the most amazing thing ever.
bryan couldn't resist a frozen custard; unfortunately, it ended up melting within 2 minutes and he walked around like a five year old kid.
i hope you've enjoyed my tour of wildwood! if you happen to make the trip down there, i recommend lounging on the 3rd street beaches, then making the trip over to the boardwalk at night. it's much less crowded and you'll find parking easier.
