Personal Shopper: For the Busty Ladies, Part I

Reader Request

I'm a wee bit hopeless when it comes to fashion and I think that now, at 27, I should start finding my way through style and understanding trends better! I'd love a suggestion about flattering outfits for bigger chested ladies. I have a very defined hourglass figure and I find a lot of the un-fitted/floaty tops that have been around this summer extremely unflattering and make me look larger than I am (which i'm self conscious about my chest doing anyway). Any tips or ideas would be great!

Girrrrl. You are preaching to the choir here. I am well-endowed myself and I hate that I can never wear an unstructured top without looking like a circus tent. Here is how I like to be sure an outfit is flattering:

  • I define my waist so that people can see that it exists
  • I wear scoop or v-necks because high necklines make my girls look saggy, and a bit of skin up top (nothing immodest) draws the eye up.
  • I avoid any fabrics that add additional bulk.

I'll do two looks for you: an evening look today and a more casual look on Wednesday. Today's ensemble comes from ASOS, Alloy, Zappos, Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe.
