Girl Crush: Iris Apfel

It feels really weird to say that I have a girl crush on a 90 year-old woman, so I'll just call Iris Apfel a fabulous designer and fashion icon and leave it at that.

If you'd like to emulate Iris, here are a few pieces that will help you do it.

Girl Crush: Elle Fanning

I've said this before, but it's strange and thrilling to watch a little girl grow up into a stylish young woman. Girl Crush: Lady Gaga

It took me a long, long time to come around, but I have to admit, I'm a Gaga fan. I don't usually listen to pop music, but hers is so damned catchy. And while sometimes her outfits have been kind of gross (cough*meatdress*cough), lately, she's been looking absolutely incredible, like an eccentric and incredibly wealthy high-society matron. See what I mean:

But let's get real: most of us normal people wouldn't feel comfortable prancing around town in looks like these. But it's pretty easy to Gaga-fy your wardrobe. Try these affordable pieces that Gaga herself would endorse.

Sunglasses $22 // Hat $115 // Shoes $60 // Coat $45 // Jacket $70 // Necklace $17

Girl Crush: Elsie from A Beautiful Mess

Elsie from A Beautiful Mess is one of the hardest working bloggers I've ever seen. She blogs, she owns and manages an adorable shop, and she's always involved in styling shoots, DIYs and other fun stuff.

Her style is just adorable, too.

Here are some über-adorable, girly pieces that I bet Elsie would love.

Earrings $26 // Top $50 // Tights $15 // Dress $75 // Shoes $48

Girl Crush: Rachel Bilson

Rachel Bilson has the distinction of being the most-featured celeb here on What the Frock? (66 times as of today) and the most requested celeb as well. And it's not surprising - she always looks great. Her red carpet looks manage to be edgy and adorable at the same time, and her street style is just fantastic.

Here are some stylish pieces that I think R-Bils would totally go for.

Girl Crush: Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese isn't the type of woman whose style I'd try to emulate completely, but I admire her nonetheless. She knows what works for her, sticks to it, and always looks amazing. She really nails that retro-pinup look, huh?

Here are some non-designer items that I think Dita would like.

Girl Crush: Beth Ditto

Beth Ditto's my girl. Her band, Gossip, is amazing (check them out), her voice kicks ass, she's outspoken, ballsy, and full of confidence. Her clothes may be too outrageous for most of us to rock on a daily basis, but her style reminds us all that you don't have to be conventional or rail-thin to be beautiful and sexy.

Here are some items that remind me of Beth's offbeat style. Remember that one eccentric piece, paired with more low-key items, can really make a statement.

Girl Crush: Anita Pallenberg

The resurgence of 60's and 70's fashion for fall is consistently reminding me of the kick-ass Anita Pallenberg. If you haven't heard of Anita, she was a model and fashion designer who was the lover of not one, but two members of the Rolling Stones: Brian Jones, who she briefly dated, and Keith Richards, with whom she has two children.

But enough about her personal life back then. Check out her style! So chic, so cool! And so influential - I'd be willing to bet that Kate Moss and Nicole Richie both really admire Anita's style.

Here are some current items that I think Anita would still like to rock today.

2. Hat $46
3. Bag  $79
4. Coat $94
5. Pants $23

Girl Crush: Olivia Palermo

So, here's the part where I tell you that I don't really know much about Olivia Palermo. I know that she was on a reality show but I'm not sure if she's still on it or even if it's still on the air. Everything that I do know about Miss P. comes from reading fashion blogs, and here it is: girlfriend rocks whatever she wears. She sometimes puts together some fairly crazy outfits, but she always looks amazing. She really pulls off the combo of uptown socialite and downtown unconventional with aplomb. Her accessories are fabulous and she always looks classy, never trashy. And she's not afraid to wear her favorite pieces over and over, which I love - she's just like regular people! Also: she has amazing hair.

Okay, I'm done gushing. Here are some of my favorite looks from Olivia:

And here are some budget pieces that remind me of her fabulous style:

1. Clutch $34
2. Pants $80

Girl Crush: Elizabeth Olsen - from Bri of Bricolage

Bri from Bricolage is a fab lady with fab style who had one of the most beautiful weddings I've ever seen. And I'm thrilled that she's here to share a girl crush with you while I'm away.

Like many girls my age, I grew up girl crushing on the Olsen twins.  But these days, it's their younger sister, Elizabeth, who I just can't get enough of.

Although having style icons for sisters, not to mention a successful fashion label named after you, certainly increases your odds of getting media attention, Elizabeth appears to be earning her time in the spotlight all on her own. After receiving rave reviews at Sundance for her upcoming films "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and "Silent House", I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of this 22-year-old NYU theatre student.  Before we know it, she might be the one saying, "I am the cute one... they're just my sisters!"

Even though most of her looks seem to consist of pieces from her sisters' high fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James, I think that Elizabeth's style is totally down-to-earth and accessible on a budget.  Maxi length skirts, boyfriend blazers, leather leggings, statement jewelry, and boots combine to give her a quirky edge that is easy to imitate. Here are some pieces I think she'd love:

1.  Dress $100
2. Necklace $44
3. Shirt $66
4. Clutch $32
5. Boots $78
6. Ring $85
7. Blazer $28
8. Leather leggings $1,990 by The Row

Girl Crush: Dianna Agron

Maybe sometime, before the fall TV season starts, I'll write down the giant rant about Glee that runs through my brain every time I think of the show (has any show ever been so infuriating? I doubt it). But then you'll all see that I'm am actually a giant obsessive nerd and lose respect for me. Unless you like obsessive nerds, in which I will also post about Harry Potter, Buffy, and Veronica Mars.

Ahem. Anyway, Quinn Fabray is sometimes one of the most inconsistent and annoying characters on the show, but that's not the fault of her portrayer, Dianna Agron, who is really awesome and talented. She's so, so pretty. She seems nice, smart and thoughtful. She has a really cool Tumblr. And I brought this photo of her to my hairstylist a few weeks ago when I got my hair chopped off.

Another thing I dig about Dianna is that, on the red carpet and on the street, she doesn't do herself like a typical young blonde starlet who is just starting to make it really, really big. There are no skimpy little bandage dresses. No unnatural hair extensions. She manages to nail a style that I really admire: part demure, part edgy.

I will say this: girlfriend needs to change up her red carpet pose a little bit. She sure likes left hand on hip, huh?

Here are some items that I like to think Dianna would enjoy:

1. Dress $91
2. Bracelet $18
3. Shoes $35
5. Clutch $35
7. Dress $73

Girl Crush: Alexa Chung

This week's girl crush actually reminds me a lot of last week's girl crush, the Man Repeller. Or, rather, Leandra from the Man Repeller reminds me of Alexa Chung.

Alexa always looks like she just happened to throw together an outfit and just happened to look incredibly stylish. My favorite thing about her style is that, like Leandra, she never tries to be overtly sexy. She often shows a lot of leg, but she's usually covered up on top, and wearing clunky shoes. there's something always a bit "off," a bit nerdy, about her style - which, in my opinion, makes her much more interesting than someone who is impeccably put together.

Plain and simple, Alexa rocks. Here are some pieces that I think she'd dig.

Girl Crush: The Man Repeller

I always admire women with self-confidence and a sense of humor, and Leandra Medine, the blogger behind fashion blog The Man Repeller, has got both in spades.

Curious what "Man Repeller" means? I'll quote Leandra directly from her blog:
[Man repelling is] outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.
She's absolutely hilarious and talks about funny things like "arm parties" and "fupa" (link NSFW). And she wears some crazy-ass outfits. I mean, check her out:

I love that she's got the confidence to wear these outfits. I also love that she dresses for herself, not to impress men. She's pretty awesome.

I couldn't rock any of these looks like Leandra does, but she's definitely inspired me. So here are some pieces  that I think would repel the men in my life.

2. Shorts $30
3. Jumpsuit $57
4. Top $29
5. Shoes $68
7. Turban $20
8. Glasses $12

Girl Crush: Diane Kruger

Diane is one of those people who looks good in anything. I mean anything. I'd be jealous if I didn't admire her so much.

It's hard to nail down Diane's style, since she'll wear almost anything, but I think that if I had to, I'd say that she favors sexy minidresses with exquisite detail, and sophisticated, architectural dresses. She's not afraid to show some skin, but she always looks classy instead of trashy, and she loves sparkle and bold color. So here are some pieces that I think Ms. Kruger would dig - and would wear very well.

1. Red Dress $47
2. Blue Dress $50
3. Sequin Shoes $35
4. Maxi Dress $100
