Mixtape Masters 2.4.11: Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

There have been a lot of changes in my life so far this year, and more are coming. In just a few months, I'll have a new job, new car, new house and new husband. So, I wanted to put together a mix that was all about change.

Sam Cooke "A Change is Gonna Come"
The Zombies "Changes"
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings "Something's Changed"
Elvis Presley "Baby Let's Play House"

Mixtape Masters 1.28.11: Wintry Mix

So, I've been totally slacking. January has been a crazy month.

Well, if any of you live in the northeast or have any Facebook friends who do, you'll know that we got HAMMERED with snow the other night. It's like Fargo up in here. Or it's like Hoth up in here. Or it's like some other snowy pop culture reference up in here.

So I made a snow/cold/winter-inspired mix for you today. Hope you like it!

Elliott Smith "Angel in the Snow"
Simon & Garfunkel "Hazy Shade of Winter"
Au Revoir Simone "Fallen Snow"
Kings of Convenience "Surprise Ice"
Mumford & Sons "Winter Winds"

Mixtape Masters 12.4.10: Stockholm Syndrome

Last night, I was browsing Etsy, looking for something for my fiancé's sister-in-law. She's proud of her Swedish heritage, so I was checking out some vintage Swedish fabrics and other pretties.

And I was inspired to make a playlist of some of my favorite Swedish artists. Mixpod was being a douche to me last night, so let's hope that Playlist.org is more friendly.

The Sounds "Dance With Me"
The (International) Noise Conspiracy "Capitalism Stole My Virginity
Mando Diao "Sheepdog"
Jens Lekman "You Are the Light"
Dungen "Gor Det Nu"
The Knife "Heartbeat"

Mixtape Masters 11.26.10: Black Friday

My favorite Black Friday tradition is NOT shopping - possibly NOT even leaving the house. No sale is worth the insanity that goes along with Black Friday shopping. I prefer to begin my holiday shopping from my laptop.

But here are some songs inspired by the official beginning of the holiday shopping brouhaha.

The Beatles "Baby's in Black"
Okkervil River "Black"
Yo La Tengo "Black Flowers"
Johnny Cash "Man in Black"
Wilco "Pot Kettle Black"
The Rolling Stones "Sweet Black Angel"

Mixtape Masters 11.19.10: Oh, oh, it's Magic!

You guys, prepare for extreme nerdiness today. Just saying. Because it's Harry Potter Day and I couldn't be more excited to see Deathly Hallows Part I today (twice).

So here is my list for today, inspired by Harry and friends. There are way more than five songs today. Because I'm SOOOO EXCITED.

Heart "Magic Man"
Donovan "Season of the Witch"
The Cars "Magic"
Alexi Murdoch "Dream About Flying"
She and Him "Magic Trick"
Belle & Sebastian "We Rule the School"
Seabear "Owl Waltz"
T. Rex "By the Light of a Magical Moon"
Jeff Buckley "Witches' Rave"
Olivia Newton-John "Magic"

Mixtape Masters 11.12.10 - Favoritism

Earlier this week, I had so many ideas for theme mixes. Guilty pleasures. Songs I shake my ass to. Sad songs. Country-inspired.

And then, this morning, I wasn't feeling theme-y. So here is another random mix: stuff I like.

Pancake Breakfast "Little Bird"
The Avett Brothers "The Ballad of Love and Hate"
The Radio Dept. "Heaven's On Fire"
The Fresh & Onlys "Waterfall"
Local Natives "Wide Eyes"

Roxy Music "Editions of You"
Tom Waits "Hold On"
Morrissey "The Loop"

Mixtape Masters: Fuzzy Friday

Some may say that a music playlist has no place on a fashion blog, but I say that music and fashion go hand-in-hand.

So I'm really psyched to be taking part in Mixtape Masters, a project with a group of bloggers who are, in turn, creative, amazing and hilarious. Every Friday, we'll be posting playlists on our blogs, and linking to the other bloggers' lists as well.

I've been in a shoegaze-y mood lately, so this week's list is Fuzzy Friday. Here are five songs that knock me over with a wall of drone-y, noisy, buzzy, sound.

My Bloody Valentine "Loomer"
Ringo Deathstarr "Summer Time"
The Jesus & Mary Chain "Just Like Honey"
Best Coast "Sun Was High (So Was I)"
Ride "Vapour Trail"
