Saturday Songs - Influenced by the Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground is one of my favorite bands, and I love what Brian Eno said about them - something about how only a thousand people bought their first album back in 1967, but every single one of those people started a band.

It's hyperbole, of course, but there's no denying that the Velvets are one of the most influential bands in the history of rock and roll. And, dudes, they are so awesome. So here are some Velvet Underground songs, and some songs by artists who were inspired by them.

The Velvet Underground "Rock and Roll"
The Velvet Underground "Sweet Jane"
Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers "Ice Cream Man'
The Soft Boys "Underwater Moonlight"
The Jesus & Mary Chain "Just Like Honey"
Luna "This Time Around"
The Brian Jonestown Massacre "Straight Up and Down"
The Strokes "Take it or Leave It"
Ambulance Ltd. "Anecdote"
