Saturday Songs - Inspired by Alaska

I was inspired by our trip to Alaska to put together some songs inspired by snow, chilly weather, and the state itself. Brrrr.

Dr. Dog "Alaska"
The Reindeer Section "Cold Water"
Seabear "Cold Summer"
Stars "What the Snowman Learned about Love"
Kings of Convenience "Surprise Ice"
Pixies "Caribou"
My Morning Jacket "The Bear"
Donovan "There is a Mountain"

Saturday Songs - The 'delphia

You know how it was okay for you to pick on your little sister, but if anyone else gave her a hard time at school you would kick their ass? That's how I feel about my hometown, Philadelphia. Those of us from here are allowed to knock it, but I will defend Philly to anyone else who has anything negative to say about it. Sure, we are the flash mob capital of the world, but so what? There's tons to do and our restaurants are top notch. Plus, there's a pretty sweet music scene here.

Here are some of my favorite Philly artists.

A Sunny Day in Glasgow "C'Mon"
Dr. Dog "The Breeze"
Marah "Long Hot Summer"
Blood Feathers "You're Welcome"
Summer Fiction "Chandeliers"
The Twin Atlas "Reach Across"
BC Camplight "If You Think I Don't Mean It"
Denison Witmer "Grandma Mary"
East Hundred "Slow Burning Crimes"

Saturday Songs - Influenced by the Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground is one of my favorite bands, and I love what Brian Eno said about them - something about how only a thousand people bought their first album back in 1967, but every single one of those people started a band.

It's hyperbole, of course, but there's no denying that the Velvets are one of the most influential bands in the history of rock and roll. And, dudes, they are so awesome. So here are some Velvet Underground songs, and some songs by artists who were inspired by them.

The Velvet Underground "Rock and Roll"
The Velvet Underground "Sweet Jane"
Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers "Ice Cream Man'
The Soft Boys "Underwater Moonlight"
The Jesus & Mary Chain "Just Like Honey"
Luna "This Time Around"
The Brian Jonestown Massacre "Straight Up and Down"
The Strokes "Take it or Leave It"
Ambulance Ltd. "Anecdote"

Saturday Songs - My Latest

For a while, when I was doing Fashion Under $100, I'd post a playlist every week. Unfortunately, nobody seemed to care.

But I'm going to give it another go. Music is a huge part of my life and I'd like to include it in my new blog. I hope that you'll give it a listen, and share your favorite music with me!

This week, I have no theme. This is just some music I've been listening to lately.

1. Nightlands "Suzerain (A Letter to the Judge)"
2. Fleetwood Mac "What Makes You Think You're the One?"
3. Teen Daze "Let's Fall Asleep Together"
4. Yuck "Get Away"
5. Jeremy Larson "Make Believe"
6. Dirty Gold "California Sunrise"
7. Kurt Vile "Baby's Arms"

What have you been listening to lately?
