Fashion Redemption: Zooey Deschanel

I hope I don't get lynched for speaking out against Miz Zooey here. She's absolutely beloved. And I love her too, most of the time. In fact, I did a Girl Crush post on her last summer.

And this look isn't that bad. I loooooooove the coat. But I've got two issues with this:

1. It's matchy-matchy. Red coat, red dress, red bag, red sunglasses. She doesn't look insane like Parker Posey, but I wish she'd mix it up a bit more.
2. It's formulaic. Zooey's cutesy dress/tights combos work well for her, but I'd love it if she stepped out of her comfort zone once in a while and wore something different. Like (gasp!) pants.

Here's a look that is still cutesy, but a bit of a departure for old Zooey. What do you think?
