Fashion Redemption: Angelina Jolie

Every time I feature Angie Jo in a Fashion Redemption post, I get at least one email telling me that I'm being unfair to her. And maybe it's true. Because if, say, Lindsay Lohan wore this, I'd probably think that it was a classy step up for her.

But, as I say each time, Angelina is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful women on the planet, and she can't be arsed (sorry, feeling a tad British today) to wear something that fits. Or to wear a color. Or to have someone iron her dress before she puts it on. I know that she's never going to wear a bright, sequinned, ruffly party dress, and that's okay. But I think I found something that's in her wheelhouse, but not so funereal.

Fashion Redemption: Mary Kate (?) Olsen

First of all, I'm pretty sure that this is MK, but I can't be sure, because different sources claimed different Olsens. You'd think that after five years of celebrity blogging, I'd be able to tell those girls apart, but I'm lost.

Now. If an outfit can make a teensy tiny Olsen look big, well, it needs to be fixed.

Fashion Redemption: Heather Morris

Oh, Heather. You are one of the only good things in what has become a terrible, awful, no-good, very bad show (Glee, I hardly knew ye), so I want to be kind, but this is one of the worst getups I've seen in a long time. It looks like she literally reached into her dark closet and threw on the first five things she found. Or else, she's just as daffy and insane as her character Brittany.

Let's try to fix this, okay? I'll even keep the skirt, which would be cute when not paired with PURE INSANITY.

Fashion Redemption: Emma Roberts

When I was a kid and tween, I spent every summer at my grandparents' shore house in Atlantic City, NJ, and I spent a lot of time on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk. And when you stroll the AC boardwalk in, say, 1988, you saw a ton of tacky souvenir shops, and they all sold tops that looked like this, except less trashy.

And nobody wore them with their shorts unzipped.

Yes, Ems was at Coachella, and yes it was hot, but seriously? I just can't.

Fashion Redemption: Angelina Jolie

Longtime readers might be able to figure out exactly what I'm going to say. Hint: it involves the c-word.

No, not that c-word. I'm talking about color, and the fact that old Angie seems to be deathly allergic to it. My kingdom for a bright, or a print, or at least something beyond taupe and beige. See how nice those neutral accessories look against a deep berry color here.

Fashion Redemption: Lana del Rey

I think that Lana del Rey is adorable, but this outfit? A world of NO.

Fashion Redemption: Rihanna

THESE ARE PAJAMAS.

I honestly had a hard time doing a Fashion Redemption for this one, because I was so tempted to make this:

But I can't. Also, I honestly think that this is SO AWESOME. If it was social acceptable and not completely ridiculous to go to fancy events in my jammies, I so would. But it's not. It's SO not.

On another positive note, I'm glad she ditched the blonde 70's shag. Her hair looks amazing.

Since Rihanna would never show up in a basic cocktail dress and simple pumps, here's something that's a bit funky, but, you know, NOT PAJAMAS.

Fashion Redemption: LeeAnn Rimes

Yes, floral jeans are in. And yes, pastels are in. But when you combine florals with too many pastels, not to mention a juvenile-looking sweatshirt, you end up with an outfit that would be much more appropriate on someone in first grade.

Here's something that's more age-appropriate.

Fashion Redemption: Christina Hendricks

I think that Christina Hendricks is by far one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood today (sidenote: so does my husband, who practically drools when we watch Mad Men). But she doesn't seem to be able to dress herself. Yes, big boobs are a challenge - I know this firsthand - but with her, she's either covering them up with frumpy high-necked garments, or shoving them up to her chin in a too-tight strapless number.

She always looks fantastic when she's decked out in her Joan Holloway-Harris wardrobe, so I think she should stick to those shapes as well - sheath dresses, scoop necks, and pencil skirts. If she keeps her hair and accessories current, she won't look like she's in 60's costume. Like this:

Fashion Redemption: Salma Hayek

There is no reason to wear this baggy, unflattering mess. Especially if you're a hot number like Salma.

Here's a much more flattering look.

Fashion Redemption: Amanda Peet

Amanda is so pretty - I don't understand why she insists on wearing such dowdy outfits. Also, I couldn't decide what she reminded me of, so today's post has a poll. Please participate!

And while we're deciding what Amanda resembles, here's an outfit I'd rather see her wear.

Fashion Redemption: Avril Lavigne

Admittedly, I am super-biased here, as Avril tops my most hated celebs list. But seriously  - she's 27 years old! So, why does she insist on wearing the same type of cheap looking Hot Topic reject junk that she's been wearing since she was a teenager? Why doesn't she try to look just a little bit sophisticated? It's possible to look like a chic adult and still hang onto a rock and roll edge - just look at Kate Moss.

Fashion Redemption: Ellie Kemper

First the good: Ellie is one of the only things that I like about The Office anymore. She's adorable and very funny. Also, her hair looks fabulous and I wish she'd worn it that way to the Oscars, because I loved her gown but her hair was just so-so.

Now the bad: this is just too twee for words. The fluffiness of the dress and the matchy-matchy pink is just too much. And redheads with pale skin usually look really good in pink, but this pink is too pale and matches her skin too closely.

Here's how I'd re-dress Ellie for her big red carpet event.

19 March 2012

Fashion Redemption: Miley Cyrus

I've got so many bad outfit photos saved on my desktop that I'm going to do a different Fashion Redemption post every night this week.

To kick it off, Miley here looks like she's supposed to be on the cover of a Harlequin romance novel that takes place in the Old West. I don't know, maybe I'm a prude but I think that there's a place for a bare midriff and that place is the beach. On a positive note, though, I am loving her shorter hair. I wish more stars would take Miley's lead and give the ratty extensions a rest.

Here is something that's a bit less "do me in the saloon bathroom" and more red carpet ready.

13 March 2012

Fashion Redemption: Sarah Jessica Parker

This is pretty much terrible all around. Well, I suppose the dress might be okay on its own, but the matchy white shoes, 80's bangs, and especially the visible bra, are all wrong. Here is a more modest and appropriate look for Miz SJP.

Fashion Redemption: Heidi Klum

I don't even know what to make of this. Did Heidi have to get a job at the Shell station after her split from Seal? Maybe it's because I'm short and stumpy, but if I had a supermodel bod, I'd never want to hide it like this. Plus,  unless there are snaps in the crotch of that thing, going to the bathroom has got to be a chore.

There are ways to be comfy that don't require coveralls, Heidi. It's going to be alright.

28 February 2012

Fashion Redemption: Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain is a beautiful and very talented woman, but in my opinion, her style choices go one of two ways. She's either close but no cigar (see here, here, here, here) or not even close (see here, here, here).

The one time she got it 100% right was the most important time - the Oscars.

But this outfit is the worst offense I've seen so far. The print, the fit, the shoes that are fine but don't go at all,  the hair, the makeup, the scowl. It's just all-around horrifying. So here's something much better.

21 February 2012

Fashion Redemption: Kim Kardashian

Really, Kim? Really?

I don't even know what to say anymore. I mean, I hated this dress when Jane Krakowski wore it to the SAG Awards a few weeks ago, but this is so, so, so much worse. On Jane, it was just ugly. On Kim, it's obscene. I understand that Kim is tackiness personified (she's built a career on it) but now she's really shoving it on our faces. LITERALLY.

Here is something that doesn't offend my eyeballs (or give my boobs sympathy pains).

19 February 2012

Fashion Redemption: Rihanna

When I saw this photo of Rihanna, two things crossed my mind. Unfortunately, they are two things that I learned from the Fug Girls:

First, oh, honey, no! And secondly, look into pants!

Let's see what we can do here to fix this.

15 February 2012

Fashion Redemption: Lana del Rey

I can see what Lana is going for with this. She favors 60's looks and I can definitely get behind a white lace minidress and Mary Janes, even if the whole thing is rather twee and very bridal (especially the shoes). My problem with this is that it looks ill-fitting and cheap. I know that this is a budget fashion blog, but being cheap and looking cheap are two different things.

Here's a look that doesn't look like a last minute bride who picked up her outfit at the swap meet.
