Inspired By: Sienna Miller's Isabel Marant Cardigan

When winter comes, all I want to wear is big, cozy sweaters, and it looks like Sienna Miller agrees. Her cardigan is Isabel Marant for H&M and not available online (and is probably sold out by now in stores, but it's worth a shot), so I rounded up some more soft, cozy cardigans.

Zigzag $79 // Burgundy $97 // Multi $49 // Stars $80 // Stripes $50

Inspired By: Sarah Jessica Parker's Studded Jacket

Honestly, SJP's outfit is a hot mess, but I'm obsessed with her jacket. It's leather and studded but still manages to be elegant. Here are some other punk-lite items that are less Sid Vicious, more sophisticated.

Dress $50 // Jacket $45 // Bag $53 // Boots $80 // Sweater $48

Inspired By: Anna Kendrick's Plaid Moto Jacket

My three favorite trends in outerwear right now are moto jackets, mixed materials, and plaid - so Anna Kendrick's jacket is calling my name!

Here are some items that remind me of her covet-worthy jacket.

Red $89 // Floral $40 // Sweater $64 // Denim $33 // Grey $50

Inspired By: Natalie Portman's Colorblocked Textured Gown

I'm seriously obsessed with Natalie's Christian Dior gown - the sleek shape, the mint/yellow/black combo, and the texture. I know that most of us can't afford Dior, but here are some items that remind me of this fab gown.

Clutch $50 // Top $49 // Dress $44 // Bracelets $10 // Necklace $58

Inspired By: Kate Middleton's Sequined Gown

Duchess Kate made her first post-baby evening appearance last week, and of course she looked flawless. Her pale sequined gown was beautiful, but most of us don't have many opportunities to wear something so formal. So if you want to channel Kate with a more wearable option, here are some affordable and sparkly pieces.

Dress $30 // Clutch $30 // Top $20 // Shorts $69 // Shoes $90

Inspired by: Ashley Madekwe's Cutout Dress

Ashley Madekwe looks chic and fashion-forward at NYFW in her red cutout dress. If you're feeling inspired by her sleek frock, here are some other sexy scarlet cutout dresses to check out.

Inspired By: Orange is the New Black

I've only watched the first few episodes of Orange is the New Black, but I'm really loving it. If you have Netflix, I highly recommend watching it. The show takes place within a women's prison, so there's not too much of an opportunity for high fashion, but it was a fun challenge to find some fashionable items that remind me of the show.

These crisp, utilitarian pieces may be reminiscent of what the prisoners wear at Litchfield, but you definitely won't look like you're doing time if you wear them.

Tee $30 // Dress $84 // Necklace $36 // Sneakers $55 // Shorts $30

Inspired By: Sharknado

Full disclosure: I haven't seen Sharknado yet. It's been hanging out on my DVR since last week but I've been too busy to sit down and check it out. But I CAN'T WAIT. It looks so ridiculous and over the top and hilarious.

So, this fashion is mostly inspired by the Sharknado poster instead of the movie itself. Enjoy!

Pouch $60 // Earrings $22 // Necklace $21 // Tank $16 // Dress $60

Inspired By: Princess Diana

With all the excitement about Duchess Kate and the royal offspring, I've been doing a lot of thinking about her husband's mother, Princess Diana. Her regal style was a bit over-the-top 80's, but still very elegant, and it easily translates to today.

Dress $50 // Hat $38 // Earrings $40 // Blazer $75 // Necklace $50 // Top $15 // Skirt $60

Inspired By: Goldie Hawn in "Overboard"

I'm not much for romantic comedies, but I've always loved Overboard, in which Goldie Hawn played Joanna Staton, an insufferable, snobby, spoiled heiress who lived on a yacht.

Her clothes were completely obnoxious - the epitome of 80's excess - but there's no denying that they were fun. Here are some items that remind me of Joanna Staton's over-the-top style, but with a more modern, low-key twist.

Sunglasses $16 // Hat $16 // Swimsuit $99 // Epaulettes $17 // Dress $50 // Earrings $31 // Fascinator $12

Inspired By: Faith from Buffy

I've blogged about our favorite Vampire Slayer Buffy Summers, and her BFF Willow Rosenberg, so it's time to feature her frenemy, Faith Lehane, played by Eliza Dushku. Faith was impulsive, promiscuous, and violent, with a dark side, and her wardrobe definitely showed it.

If head-to-toe leather, bare midriffs, and tribal tattoos are too 90's "cleavage-y slutbomb" (TM Willow), don't worry, it's five by five. You can still have a little Faith in your life with these affordable items. Just mix these vampy pieces with some more conservative items to keep your look current and classy.

Top $41 // Bracelets $5 // Belt $59 // Lipstick $19 // Boots $66 // Ring $86 // Pants $21

Inspired By: Charlotte "Chuck" Charles

I recently started watching Pushing Daisies, and I'm loving it. The premise is fascinating but I really love the art direction and design of the show - the bright colors and retro feel of the sets and costumes.

Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, the romantic lead of the show, is played by Anna Friel and has such a cute, feminine sense of style.

If you covet Chuck's style, you can easily recreate it with these affordable pieces.

Yellow Dress $80 // Beret $24 // Earrings $30 // Scarf $19 // Sunglasses $40 // Cardigan $35 // Coat $55 // Pink Dress $83

Inspired By: The 90's

I always feel like a fossil whenever I talk about the 90's, but I can't help feeling nostalgic about the decade in which I hit adulthood. The fashion, while not as flashy as it was in the 80's, still left its mark, and the 90's have been back in a big way.

Channeling the 90's today is easy. Just find some plaid, a babydoll dress, some chunky boots, a crop top, and maybe some crushed velvet for good measure, and you're good as gold!

Sweater $30 // Choker $7 // Dress $40 // Bag $22 // Socks $18 // Skirt $38 // Boots $98

Inspired By: Lily Aldrin from "How I Met Your Mother"

Lily from HIMYM, played by Alyson Hannigan, has a style that's a combo girl-next-door and trendy Manhattanite. She's a compulsive shopper with a love of tall leather boots, color, and pattern.

Lily's got an accessible style, easy to re-create with these affordable pieces here.

Boots $85 // Necklace $50 // Sweater $66 // Dress $90 // Top $45 // Bag $60

Inspired By: Rita Leeds from Arrested Development

I've got Arrested Development fever this week, so I wanted to feature one of the best character cameos in the series - Charlize Theron's character Rita Leeds. I'm not going to give away the reason behind her quirky, childlike style, but at any rate, she's got quite a unique look.

If you're not interested in the full-on Rita look, just add one of these fun items to a more sophisticated outfit.

Hat $7 // Boots $30 // Blazer $60 // Dress $60 // Clutch $10 // Earrings $18

Inspired By: Philadelphia's Magic Garden

I recently came across some photos that I took a few years ago of Philadelphia's Magic Garden, this really cool mosaic art installation here in Philly. It's a labyrinthine sculpture garden made entirely of found objects. If you're ever in Philly, you need to check it out!

All personal photos
If you can't visit the Garden, the next best thing you can do is wear some of these pretty mosaic-inspired pieces.

Clutch $100 // Bracelet $45 // Scarf $22 // Shoes $77 // Earrings $17 // Skirt $80

Inspired By: The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby will be in theaters next week, and while I'm undecided if I think it's actually going to be any good, there's no doubt in my mind that it will look fantastic.

So here are some stylish pieces inspired by the time of Gatsby, the opulent, indulgent Roaring 20's.

Dress $18 // Shoes $57 // Hat $44 // Earrings $30 // Headband $8 // Bag $22

Inspired By: Willow Rosenberg

It's been a long time since I've been sartorially inspired by one of my favorite shows, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I posted about Buffy almost four years ago, but today, I'm inspired by her best friend, Willow Rosenberg, portrayed by Alyson Hannigan.

Willow's style evolved over the series, from juvenile and sort of dorky to much more adult and bohemian, but what stayed pretty consistent was her love of color.

If you'd like to channel your inner computer geek-turned-witch, here are some affordable, Willow-inspired items to get you started.

Sweater $80 // Scarf $11 // Skirt $68 // Dress $49 // Tights $15 // Cardigan $28

Inspired By: Hannah Horvath

Hannah Horvath from Girls isn't the most glamorous or high-fashion TV character but we can still find some inspiration in her 90's inspired, slightly frumpy, mix-and-match wardrobe.

If you'd like to channel Hannah's Brooklyn intellectual wardrobe, here's how to do it on a budget.

Belt $40 // Shirt $35 // Dress $61 // Shoes $55 // Cardigan $15 // Bag $40 // Skirt $23 // Tights $37

09 April 2013

Inspired By: Rebecca Howe from Cheers

Last week, I featured the prissy intellectual Diane Chambers from Cheers. After Shelley Long, who played Diane, left the show, she was replaced by Kirstie Alley as the neurotic but ambitious Rebecca Howe. Rebecca's wardrobe was pure mid-80's business lady.

These pieces channel Rebecca's style, and when paired with some softer pieces they're just as stylish in 2013 as they were in 1987.

Pants $25 // Earrings $17 // Skirt $45 // Dress $90 // Blazer $45 // Shoes $58 // Top $60
