In 1994's Léon: The Professional, Natalie Portman's first feature film, she plays a troubled, tough-as-nails little girl named Mathilda who befriends a professional assassin. She was just 12 years old but was already showing some badass fashion sense.

It may seem strange to use a 12 year-old for fashion inspiration, but Mathilda dressed too old for her age, so I think that makes it okay - what do you think? Here are some pieces that remind me of Mathilda.

Fashion Redemption: Natalie Portman

I went back and forth on this one a few times. At first, I thought it was awful, but then after staring at it for a few minutes, I kind of thought that Natalie looked cute anyway. But after a little bit, I realized that while she may pull this off better than most, the outfit still looks like something that you'd wear to your first day of clown college. The shapelessness of the dress and the matchy-matchy sneakers just don't do it for me.
