What I'm Wearing: Happy New Year!

Happy Happy New Year, y'all! Thanks so much for sticking with me and the blog for another year!

First of all, don't forget my fundraising drive for Dress for Success. If one of your New Year's resolutions was to give more to charity, why not donate to this fashion-related cause. Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

And secondly, I thought I'd feature an outfit that I wore a couple of weeks ago. It reminds me of the type of outfits that I used to wear twenty years ago (!) in the early 90's. And everything I'm wearing in this outfit is at least a year old, which is rare for me. Well, except for the tights, which are brand spanking new!

What I'm Wearing: Casually Gilded

I wore this outfit last week when I went out to dinner with a friend. I was in the mood to wear some sparkle, but didn't really feel like getting dressed up for a casual dinner, so I dressed my sequins down by layering it over a button-down shirt (with some bling of its own), skinny jeans, and flat loafers.

Brand from a few years ago (similar here, here) // Shoes: ShoeDazzle (similar here) // Necklace: Forever 21 (similar here) // Glasses: Coach c/o Lenscrafters (similar here) // Bag: Foley + Corinna via eBay (similar here, here)

Marshall's Fashion Face-off Blogger Challenge: Blazer

Today is the final challenge of the Marshalls Fashion Face-off. This week, to celebrate fall fashion, I've been tasked with styling a blazer from Marshalls.

And stay tuned, because after the outfit pic, there's a chance to win a $100 gift card from Marshalls, and you don't want to miss out, do you?

This cobalt blazer from Kenar would've been $60 at a department store, but I snagged it for under $20. I put together a look that would easily go from office to happy hour. And there's that giant DKNY tote again! It was originally priced at almost $400, but I got it at Marshalls for $130.

Marshall's Fashion Face-off Blogger Challenge: Equipment-Inspired Blouse

Today is the third challenge of Marshalls Fashion Face-off. To celebrate fall fashion, I've been tasked with styling an Equipment-inspired blouse from Marshalls. Why spend a few hundred dollars on a crisp shirt when you can find one for a fraction of the price?

And stay tuned, because after the outfit pic, there's a chance to win a $100 gift card from Marshalls, and you don't want to miss out, do you?

This Olive & Oak shirt was originally $44, but I got it for under $20. I decided to throw together a polished, professional look, perfect for a business casual office, but then I put on a fun pair of leopard sandals to add some flair.

I ended up with this Ralph Lauren when we kicked off the blogger event. It would've been $400 at a department store, but it was under $200 at Marshalls.

What I'm Wearing: Hot and Cold with Old Navy

When Old Navy asked me to style one of their items for hot and cold, I jumped at the chance! They asked me to choose an item from their fall circular. I visited my local Old Navy to do some damage.

I loved this cozy red cardigan from and had a lot of fun figuring out what in my closet to pair it with.

My "hot" look is more of a warm look. The weather here has been kind of crazy. It's chilly at night but way too warm for layers during the day. So I wore the cardigan over a barely-there cami and tucked it into a flirty lace skirt. Bare legs and suede pumps finished off the look.

For my "cold" look," I layered the cardigan over my favorite leopard shirt and tucked my Old Navy Rockstar jeans into my old standby black boots.

Do you like to adapt your favorite items of clothing for hot and cold weather? Share your styling tips below, and check out Old Navy's circular for some fantastic deals.

Come Fun, Come All.

Promotional prices valid 10/4-10/16 while supplies last. Select styles only. Some colors and items not available in all stores.

Marshall's Fashion Face-off Blogger Challenge: Colored Bottoms

Today is the second official challenge of Marshalls Fashion Face-off. To celebrate fall fashion, I've been tasked with styling a pair of colored bottoms from Marshalls.

And stay tuned, because after the outfit pic, there's a chance to win a $100 gift card from Marshalls, and you don't want to miss out, do you?

Colored bottoms were everywhere for spring and summer in bright colors like mint, coral, and yellow, but it's easy to bring the trend into fall with a quintessentially autumnal fabric and color - corduroy in burgundy! I paired the cords with an on-trend peplum top, simple black pumps, and my favorite leopard bag.

These Seven7 brand cords were originally $60 but I managed to snag them for under $30 at Marshalls. They're so comfy and versatile that I know I'll be wearing them all the time for the next six months.

What I'm Wearing: Dots and Chevron

You may have seen a small Instagram photo of this outfit in my Old Navy post last week, but I wanted to feature the full look. I intended to wear this out to dinner with a friend in NYC, but we canceled due to a tornado watch (TORNADO WATCH! In New York!) so I wore it when I went out with my husband over the weekend instead.

I'm so happy that I can finally wear sleeves and pants again!

Marshall's Fashion Face-off Blogger Challenge: Booties

I'm really excited for the first official challenge of Marshalls Fashion Face-off. To celebrate fall fashion, I've been tasked with styling a pair of booties from Marshalls, and really, what's more fall than a pair of booties in autumn's top color, burgundy?

And stay tuned, because after the outfit pics, there's a chance to win a $100 gift card from Marshalls, and you don't want to miss out, do you?

Here's what I put together. The Nine West booties were originally $110, but I snagged them at Marshalls for  $60. The black cardigan was an old Marshalls find from a few years back, and I wear it to death every fall.

This large DKNY tote is the perfect carryall. It was originally priced at almost $400, but I got it at Marshalls for $130. Score! And the booties are so comfy and cute. I can't wait to wear them with everything in my closet!

Enter to Win a $100 Marshall's Gift Card

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had an awesome Labor Day! The transition back from a long weekend is always pretty rough, but read on for some good news...

I recently teamed up with Marshall's to celebrate fall fashion, and it was so much fun! They challenged me to put together the perfect fall outfit for under $100, inspired by trends like color and print. Here's what I came up with.

The floral shirtdress is the perfect transition piece - I can wear it now with bare legs and pumps, and in the cooler months with tights, boots and a cardigan.

These tan suede pumps are comfy and pretty much go with everything in my closest, and this burgundy bag is roomy, stylish, and one of the hottest colors for fall 2012.

The shoes, dress and bag all cost less than $100, and I saved almost $75 off of the original department store prices!

Now, here's the real fun part - Marshall's wants to give a What the Frock reader their own $100 gift card too! Entering is easy, just use Rafflecopter below. I'll be choosing a winner on Monday the 10th, so don't miss out on the opportunity.

$100 at Marshall's can go a long, long way. What's the secret? It's their buyers - they are the ultimate treasure hunters and are constantly traveling around the world to find deals on the hottest items so you'll find amazing new pieces in stores each week.

Disclosure: Compensation was provided by Marshall's in the form of two $100 gift cards - one for me and one for the contest winner.  The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and are not indicative of the opinions or positions of Marshall's or the TJX Companies.

What I'm Wearing: Job Interview

I lost my job last week. I don't have much to say about the whole deal besides the fact that I knew it was coming for quite a while and it was disappointing and stressful, but I'm okay with it and I'm looking forward to finding something new and fabulous (although, since I'm a big fan of networking, I suppose I should put it out there that if anyone knows of an online marketing or social media position, either in or near Philly or something that would allow telecommuting, send it my way at whatthefrockblog@gmail.com.)

Okay. Enough about that. This is a fashion blog, right?

I had a job interview last week, for a social media position at a retail/fashion brand. An acquaintance of mine works there, so I contacted her beforehand to find out the dress code of the company. She said that the company was super-casual, and that I wouldn't need to wear a suit to the interview. And this was a relief, since I don't own a suit!

Here's what I wore. It's professional and polished, but stylish, and I didn't feel like I was wearing a "business lady" costume like I usually do when I go on interviews.

What I'm Wearing: Yellow, there!

What I'm Wearing: True Blue

I bought this blue lace dress (and the same one in chartreuse) for a trip to L.A.that I'm taking in early December. But I couldn't wait that long to wear the dress, so I decided to winter it up again. It's hard to tell in the photos, but the belt is leopard and in real life, the brown in the shoes played off the brown in the belt, and it looked fairly rad, if I do say so myself!

What I'm Wearing: Cowgirl Goth?

A few weeks ago, when I put together this Stevie Nicks costume, I really dug the velvet burnout maxi skirt I'd found, so I bought it.

But when I brought it home, I wasn't sure what to do with it. Velvet + sheer + maxi + black = a little bit too goth for my tastes. So I decided to un-goth it up by pairing it with pieces that were as far from goth as possible. When I put on a pair of cowboy boots and a simple white shirt, I felt kind of like a gothic cowgirl. But I think it sort of worked.

What I'm Wearing: Winterizing a Summer Dress

In the survey, a lot of you said that you preferred photos of me instead of collages when I post these "What I'm Wearing" posts, and I'm here to serve!

This was one of my favorite dresses this past summer. I wore it all the time, and was kind of bummed that I'd have to give it up now that it's chillier. So I said, eff it, I'm not giving it up - I'll layer with it and wear it year-round!

What I'm Wearing: Tomboyesque

I woke up late one morning this past week but and didn't feel like making the effort to put together a decent outfit, so I just threw on a button-down, a pair of my trusty Levi's, and a pair of boots I bought last year but never wore.I felt really tomboyish so I asked the Mister if I looked like a boy (he looked at me like I was crazy). Well, wouldn't you know, I got to work and got so many compliments on my outfit!

What I'm Wearing: New Dog Park

There are so many things that I miss about the city since we moved to the 'burbs - and one of the biggies is having a dog park nearby. I feel like our guy has been pretty lonely since we left the city. But last week, I did some research online and found a baller park just a few miles from us. Our dog loved it and the Mister and I did, too.

I just threw on a bunch of old comfy clothes to wear to the park, and I ended up really loving my outfit. My favorite part? The vintage loafers I recently snagged for two bucks!

What I'm Wearing: Come ON, Fall. I Mean, Seriously.

It's mid-October and with the exception of a couple of days a few weeks ago, the temperature has been hovering around 75 degrees. This is unacceptable. I've got a whole closet full of sweaters and boots that have been waiting for their turn, and they're getting impatient. So what I've been doing is wearing my fall clothes regardless of the forecast, and then feeling uncomfortably hot and sweaty. So come ON, fall. I mean, seriously. I want to wear this outfit without feeling like I need a shower after two hours.

What I'm Wearing: Busting Out of the Rut

I've been kind of in a fashion rut lately, and it has to do with the changing of seasons. It's too chilly for sandals and bare legs, but too warm for heavy sweaters. After a few days of wearing fairly uninspired outfits, I decided to try to look a bit more put together yesterday, and here's what I came up with.

What I'm Wearing: Hanging on to Summer

Even though I talk all the time about how much I love fall, it's still pretty warm here in Philly, so I haven't put my summer clothes into hibernation just yet. I was really drawn to ivory/cream lace and crochet this summer, so this dress was a favorite summer staple. Since it's no longer super-hot, I wore it with a chambray shirt from the men's department (unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up).
